Our 10 hectare vineyard at South Burloo is situated on a free standing hill at between 630 and 660 metres above sea level.
  • Vines planted: Chambourcin, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Shiraz, Tempranillo, Viognier.
  • Canopy management: Smart Dyson/VSP.
  • Pruning by hand.
  • Picking by hand at night.
  • Integrated Pest Management employed. No Insecticides used. Minimal fungicide/herbicide usage.
  • The soils are 50 cm to 1.8 metres deep, comprised of decayed red basalt clay loam interspersed with an abundance of coarse sandstone gravel and rocks.
  • The climate is continental:
    • Summers are warm with low humidity, and rain events are mainly from summer storms in January and February.
    • Winters are cold with very low humidity. Rain falls as extended showers.
    • Average rainfall is 710mm (28 inches).
    • Diurnal range of temperature is high. January mean max. is below 32ºC/mean min. is below 15ºC. July mean max 15ºC/mean min. 0ºC.
    • Wind is a constant factor, virtually negating any frost threat (despite cold temperatures), and providing aeration for the vine canopies (and low fungal disease threat).
